After a long string of push-backs Jidenna’s debut album, The Chief, is finally here. The 14-track album—which he verified all the lyrics for on Genius—features Quavo, Roman GianArthur, St. Beauty, and Janelle Monáe. Production is handled by Best Kept Secret, Nana Kwabena, and Jidenna himself. The Chief also includes the previously-released singles “Long Live the Chief,” “Chief Don’t Run,” “Little Bit More,” and “The Let Out,” minus Quavo. The Migos frontman is featured on the single version of “The Let Out,” but his verse didn’t make the final album cut.

“Some songs feel like the world is on top of me. Other times, I’m on top of the world,” he said about the album in a 2016 interview with Vibe. “I highlighted the African and American sides of me, the Nigerian side. Also the different American cities that I’ve lived in, from the East coast to the West coast.
